Five UFCJC Faculty Receive Promotions

The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) has announced that five faculty have been promoted.

Environmental Journalist in Residence Cynthia Barnett has been promoted to senior lecturer. Barnett has covered water and climate stories worldwide and she has led UFCJC student multimedia projects on current environmental concerns including Living on the Edge, WatershedThe Human HazardPeak Florida and Energy Burden.

Rob Hiaasen Lecturer in Investigative Reporting Ted Bridis has been promoted to senior lecturer. Bridis oversees “Fresh Take Florida,” which provides coverage of Florida state government to news outlets within Florida and across the country. Bridis is a finalist for the Society of Professional Journalists Pro Sunshine State Awards Adviser of the Year.

Roxane Coche, Media Production, Management, and Technology assistant professor and interim chair, has received tenure and been promoted to associate professor. Coche has also served as the associate director of the Sports Journalism and Communication program, where she helped update the Sports@CJC curriculum, including developing two sports-related study abroad programs. In 2022, Coche was named a fellow by the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center at Florida International University.

Journalism Lecturer and Associate Chair Harrison Hove has been promoted to senior lecturer. Hove is also serving as interim director of the Innovation News Center. He is the director of the Summer Media institute, a journalism immersion program for high school students. He was named UF’s Undergraduate Teacher of the Year in 2020-21 and received the Rising Star Award from the UF Center for Teaching Excellence in 2021 and 2022.

Public Relations Professional in Residence Mickey Nall has been promoted to senior lecturer. Nall has been a public relations agency professional for more than 30 years. He received the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Gold Anvil Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2022 and the PRSA David Ferguson Award in 2018 for outstanding contributions to public relations education.
