Four UFCJC Alumni Selected for Gotham EDU Film and Media Career and Development Program
Four University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) alumni have been selected to participate in the Gotham EDU Film and Media Career and Development Program. The program is dedicated to championing and empowering young professionals as they face the challenges of transitioning from student to industry professional.
The UFCJC students selected are 2023 Telecommunication graduates Ayla Babanikos, Katrina Lee, Bridget Perdomo and Jasmine Pérez.
Gotham EDU seeks to provide more equitable access to the film and media industry for the next generation of storytellers by prioritizing mentorship, resources, and community. UFCJC is one of the sponsoring organizations this year and provides tuition for the students attending.
The virtual program this year will include two sessions, one from June 5 to July 14 and the second from July 17 to August 18. Twenty students will participate in each, with those in the overall cohort coming from 25 colleges and universities across the U.S.
During the six-week virtual component of the program, participants will attend interactive discussions with industry leaders, develop creative concepts and explore career opportunities. They will also be exposed to a variety of career choices, gain a working knowledge of the film and media industry sectors, develop a creative concept and engage with makers and industry leaders during Gotham Week 2023.
This year’s expanded curriculum covers development, pitching, marketing, distribution, new technology and entrepreneurship via workshops, peer-to-peer sessions and open conversations. Students will also receive mentorship and insights from industry professionals spanning fiction, documentary and audio formats.
