Jasmine McNealy, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications associate director of the Marion B. Brechner First Amendment Project and associate professor, Media Production, Management, and Technology, is the author of “Hoarder, Handler, Bricoleur, Spy: An Explication of Information Distribution Organizations” published in the Dec. 2021 edition of Journal of International Criminal Law.

In the article, McNealy investigates and explicates the ways in which information distribution organizations play a role in the communication of information to news-seeking audiences.

According to McNealy, “The article groups information distribution organizations based on how the firms interact with information into four categories: hoarder, handler, bricoleur and spy, using information processing theory, when used to model human cognition and explore the needs of information users, as a framework of category building.”

She adds, “These categories are useful for shaping how policymakers look to regulate and prohibit certain organization– information interactions, as they look to the possible impacts of firm activity on individuals and communities.”
