CJC Doctoral Student Receives an AEJMC Electronic News Division Top Paper Award
Heidi Makady, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications doctoral student, is the recipient of the second place student paper award in the Electronic News Division from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).
Makady is the author of “I Wouldn’t React to it Because of the Algorithm: How Can Self-Presentation Moderate News Consumption.” Her study explored how audience’s levels of algorithmic awareness of social media recommendation systems along with their self-presentation levels on those platforms, may drive their news consumption and interaction with news items. In this framework, it seeks to explore conditions to understand audience interaction with news content to optimize news organization’s reach and content engagement through interaction.
She will present the paper during the virtual 2021 AEJMC conference from Aug. 4-7.
