The University of Florida today announced that Harrison Hove, College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Journalism lecturer, has been named the 2020-21 Teacher of the Year. Hove is the second UFCJC faculty member in a row to win the prestigious award, and sixth in 15 years.

In addition to UF Teacher of the Year, Hove, B.S. Telecommunication and Political Science 2005, was named UFJC Teacher of the Year and received a UF Superior Accomplishment Award and UF Center for Teaching Excellence Rising Star Award. He won second place in the UF International Center Global Culture Photo Competition and was one of two UFCJC faculty member nominated for a UF Career Influencer Award. Hove also was the faculty advisor for five winning entries in the 2021 BEA Festival of Media Arts competition.

UFCJC Journalism Department Chair Ted Spiker said, “Harrison—a former news manager in our Innovation News Center and professional broadcast journalist—has been an exceptional teacher and mentor for his students. His students cite his ability to hold high standards, to teach best and current industry practices, and to care for them as people and students. He expertly embodies the ‘tough love’ approach to balance empathy for students while continually pushing them to do professional-quality and award-winning work. “

In addition to his teaching and mentoring, Hove participated in 43 conferences, tutorials and workshops during the 2020-21 academic year, on topics ranging from diversity to teaching in a pandemic.
