Sylvia Chan-Olmsted to Serve as Collaborative Researcher on Egyptian COVID-19 Media Relief Project
Sylvia Chan-Olmsted, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Telecommunication professor and Media Consumer Research director, is a collaborative researcher for a COVID-19 Media Relief Project on local journalism startups in Egypt, which is partially supported by the Facebook Journalism Project.
The project offers a comprehensive one-year program to support Egyptian media organizations and individuals in addressing some of the pressing issues and challenges facing the industry during and after the coronavirus pandemic.
The goal of the project is “to advance the communication and journalism societies and ensure the provision of high quality, reliable, and well-informed content to the public. The project seeks to equip journalists with the main skills and tools of digital journalism to adapt to the unprecedented events resulting from the pandemic.”
Chan-Olmsted recently studied Egypt’s video streaming industry and the business model factors that influence its performance.
