CJC Students Honored in National 2019 SPJ Mark of Excellence Competition
Four University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications students journalists and WUFT News staff were honored in the National 2019 Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Mark of Excellence Awards competition. The awards recognize the best in student journalism during 2019.
National SPJ Mark of Excellence winners and finalists include:
Radio News Reporting: Winner, Nicole Rogers, B.S. Telecommunication 2020, “Michael: One Year Later”
Radio Sports Reporting: Finalist, Skyler Lebron, B.S. Telecommunication 2019, “Mr. Two-Bits”
Best All-Around Radio Newscast: Finalist, WUFT News Staff, WUFT newscast
Television General News Reporting: Finalist, Quan McWil, B.S. Telecommunication 2020, “Hammett Bowen: A Hero’s Legacy”
Television Feature Reporting: Winner, Quan McWil, B.S. Telecommunication 2020, “CSI Camp”
Best All-Around Television News Magazine: Winner, WUFT News Staff, “After the Eye”
Best Broadcast News Videography: Finalist, Hasley Pitman, B.S. Telecommunication 2020, “Creating A New Normal”
The students who received first place in their categories in the 2019 SPJ Region 3 regional competition in March were automatically advanced to the national contest for judging.
