University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications student films and news reports were nominated for recognition in the National Academy of Arts and Sciences (NATAS) 2020 Suncoast Chapter Student Production Awards competition.

Two films from the CJC Narrative Collaborative Filmmaking course led by Telecommunication Lecturer Iman Zawahry received nominations. “The Lead” by Madalin Stenzel, B.S. Telecommunication 2019, and Parker Bohner, B.S. Telecommunication 2018, and “Collectibles” by Kelvy Alter, B.S. Telecommunication 2019, were nominated in the Short-Form Fiction and Long-Form Fiction categories, respectively. “The Lead” earlier this year won the Best of Festival Award in the Broadcast Education Association’s Festival of Media Arts Student Film & Video Competition Narrative category.

In addition, Hasley Pitman, B.S. Telecommunication 2020, was nominated in the General Assignment Serious News category for “Creating a New Normal,” Quan McWil, B.S. Telecommunication 2020, received a nod in the General Assignment Light News category for “CSI Camp,” and “After the Eye” by WUFT students was included the in the Magazine category.

The second annual Suncoast Student Production Awards encourage the pursuit of excellence in video production and focus public attention on outstanding achievements produced by college, university and high school students.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no date has been set to announce the winners in the 2020 competition.
