CJC Alum John Woodrow Cox Selected as 2017-18 Outstanding Young Alumnus

John Woodrow Cox, B.S. Journalism 2008 and M.S. Business Administration 2010, has been selected as the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Outstanding Young Alumnus for 2017-2018. The award will be presented at a lunch ceremony on April 14.

Media critics have called Cox the best young narrative writer in the country. He is an enterprise reporter at The Washington Post where his series on youth and gun violence has received national attention. Prior to joining The Post, he worked at the Tampa Bay Times and the Valley News in New Hampshire. In 2014, he won first and second place in the Society for Features Journalism’s Short Feature category and was named a finalist for Scripps Howard’s Ernie Pyle Award for Human Interest Storytelling.

As a student at CJC, Cox won the Hearst National Writing Championship. After graduation he taught a course in narrative writing at CJC and currently serves on the Department of Journalism Advisory Council.
