UFCJC Students Honored in 2023-24 Hearst Journalism Awards Competition
University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) student journalists are competing in the 2023-2024 Hearst Journalism Awards program. The program includes five writing, two photojournalism, one audio, two television and four multimedia competitions.
Current UFCJC results include:
- Explanatory Writing: Alan Halaly, first place
- Multimedia Narrative Storytelling: Serra Sowers, fifth place
- Multimedia II Innovative Storytelling: Aubrey Bocalan, third place; Ashleigh Lucas, sixth place
- Feature Writing: Alan Halaly, sixth place; Kylie Williams, eighth place
- Television I: Chris Will, seventh place; Macie Goldfarb, 11th place
- Television News: Chris Will, 10th place
- Photo One News & Features: Lorenzo Vasquez, 18th place tie
- Photo II Picture Story/Series: Madilyn Gemme, 14th place
- Audio News and Features: Siena Duncan, 12th place tie, Ailee Shanes, 15th place
UFCJC Intercollegiate competition current standings:
- Writing: second place
- Television: fourth place
- Audio: third place
- Multimedia: fourth place
The Hearst Journalism Awards Program, now in its 64th year, offers up to $700,000 in scholarships, matching grants and stipends. 105 member universities of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication with accredited undergraduate journalism programs are eligible to participate in the Hearst competitions.
