WUFT-FM Student Journalists, Staff and Alumni Receive National 2023 PMJA Awards
University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications student journalists, staff and alumni are the recipients of four National Division C (small station under five staff) and four National Student Division 2023 Public Media Journalists Association (PMJA) Awards. The awards recognize the best public media journalism work in 2022 from across the U.S.
National Division C winners include:
- News Feature: First Place, “Sunken Homes,” by Journalism senior Jack Prator, WUFT-FM
- Short Documentary: First Place, “Surviving Ian,” by WUFT-FM Staff
- Narrative/Produced Podcast: Second Place, “Decolonizing the Curriculum,” by WUFT-FM Staff
- Enterprise category: Second Place, “How a Black Marching Band Style Was Erased from Gainesville’s Fields, and Why That Matters Decades Later,” by Katie Hyson, M.A.M.C. 2020, WUFT-FM
National Student Division winners include:
- Student Interview Podcast: First Place, “The Rewind from WUFT,” by WUFT-FM Staff
- Student News Feature: First Place, “Sunken Homes” by Jack Prator, WUFT-FM
- Student Newscast: First Place, “The Point Newscast 11-29-2022” by Journalism senior Serra Sowers, WUFT-FM
- Student Multi-Media Presentation: Second Place, “A Living History: Reenactor Fills the Gap of Black Seminole Legacy in Florida,” by Meleah Lyden, B.S. Telecommunication 2022, WUFT-FM
The awards were presented during the National PMJA Conference in San Antonio, Texas from June 21-23.
