Juliana Fernandes to Join More Like Us’ Social Science Advisory Council
University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Advertising Assistant Professor Julia Fernandes has been invited to join the Social Science Advisory Council of More Like Us, a non-governmental organization (NGO) aiming to address America’s political perception gap.
According to More Like Us, Americans overestimate differences between political parties. The NGO, which is in the pre-launch phase, plans to bring both academics and practitioners together to address the perception gap by helping spread accurate messages about each political party via various societal channels, starting with religious leaders, and addressing structural reasons for misperceptions, beginning with social media reform.
The Social Science Advisory Council is a group of academics from across the social sciences who will use scientific methods to inform More Like Us’ interventions and communications. The Council includes scholars from Georgetown, Princeton University, Northwestern University, Stanford University, University of Delaware, University of Utah and others.
The Council’s activities include idea generation, post-implementation effectiveness testing, grant funding, content development, external advising, public communications and research updates.
