UFCJC Online Adjunct Offers Tips on Becoming a Part-Time College Instructor
Pam Fultz, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Public Relations adjunct instructor, is the author of “A Teachable Moment: Finding Fulfillment as a College Instructor” published online on PRSA Strategies and Tactics, September 2022.
As part of UFCJC’s online master’s program, Fultz teaches a graduate course in measurement and evaluation of public relations campaigns.
“The transition from PR practitioner to adjunct lecturer at UF may seem more like a huge leap than a small step, but I now realize my humble academic beginnings and 25-year plus professional journey prepared me for the fresh path upon which I was about to embark,” writes Fultz.
She offers tips for others pursuing a job as a part-time college adjunct including follow your instincts, research opportunities and requirements, understand expectations, prepare family and friends for the additional time required for teaching, and enjoy the opportunity to interact with students and impart industry knowledge.
