Sylvia Chan-Olmsted Comments on Streaming Service Competition
Sylvia Chan-Olmsted, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Media Production, Management, and Technology professor and Media Consumer Research director, was quoted in “Netflix Loses a Million Subscribers But Stock Rebounds” posted on ktvu.com on July 19.
The story focuses on Netflix, the worldwide film and TV show and information streaming service. Almost one million customers have dropped the service in the last three months. They now have a plan to entice customers to return by offing the service for less money, but with commercials.
“All the competitors are learning from Netflix. They are learning and investing, So, they are now more competitive,” said Chan-Olmsted.
She adds, “A lot of the social ‘buzz’ about Netflix original shows has gone to its competitors. Many households are cutting back on the average three to five services most have.”
