Rachel Grant Discusses Racism and Race Relations at USA TODAY Forum
Rachel Grant, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Journalism assistant professor, was one of five panelists for “The Pulse,” a USA TODAY Network-Florida virtual discussion on racism and the Black Lives Matter movement 10 years after the death of Trayvon Martin, on Feb. 22.
Grant joined Kevin Warren, Jacquelyn McMiller, Terry Coney and Tyon Davis for a discussion on the continuing fear of Black males in American society, parenting Black children, efforts to improve race relations and where we go next.
Martin was shot Feb. 26, 2012, by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer who claimed he felt threatened by the Black teenager. Zimmerman was found not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter at trial a year later.
Palm Beach Post Executive Editor Rick Christie moderated the discussion.
