Roxane Coche Discusses Her Sports Journalism Research on “The J Word” Podcast
Roxane Coche, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Sports Journalism and Communication associate director and Media Production, Management, and Technology assistant professor, is featured in “Sports Journalism and Digital Discourses,” an episode of “The J Word: A Podcast by Journalism Practice!” on Aug. 31.
The episode features Coche and Patrick Ferrucci, associate professor and associate chair for Graduate Studies in the Department of Journalism at University of Colorado Boulder, discussing the role of sports journalism in shaping social interpretations of gender, place, and the meanings of winning, losing, and leaving it all on the field.
Coche shares details of her co-authored article, “Victory on Their Own Terms: American Front-Page Framing of the USWNT World Cup Championship” published in the Journal of Journalism Practice on Sept. 29, 2020. The article examined the function of American exceptionalism in coverage of women’s sport, specifically in coverage of the U.S. women national team’s FIFA World Cup title in 2019.
