Juliana Fernandes Joins University of Florida as an Advertising Assistant Professor
Juliana Fernandes will join the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) as an assistant professor in Advertising this fall. She will teach core advertising courses, including Advertising Strategy, Digital Insights, and Advertising Campaigns.
Fernandes is currently an assistant professor in the University of Miami School of Communication where she has taught, at the undergraduate level, principles of advertising, advertising strategy development, research methods for advertising and advertising campaigns, and a seminar in public relations and political campaigns at the graduate level. Prior to joining the University of Miami in 2012, she was an assistant professor for two years at Florida International University.
Her research interests focus on the use and effects of negative information in persuasive communication messages and how social and traditional media are used as a strategic tool during political campaigns.
She has published academic articles in top advertising and mass communication journals including the Journal of Advertising, International Journal of Advertising, Journal of Current Issues & Research in Advertising, Mass Communication & Society, Journal of Public Relations Research, American Behavioral Scientist, American Journal of Media Psychology, and the Journal of Social Media in Society. She also has several book chapters in edited collections.
Her work has also been selected for presentations at the AEJMC, the American Academy of Advertising, the European Advertising Academy, the International Communication Association, the National Communication Association, the Broadcast Education Association, and the American Political Science Association conferences.
Fernandes earned her M.A.M.C. in 2007 and her Ph.D. in 2010 from UFCJC. She received her B.A. in Journalism from Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos in Brazil.
