Sylvia Chan-Olmsted Co-Authors Article on Smartphone Dependency of Media Consumers
Sylvia Chan-Olmsted, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Telecommunication professor and Media Consumer Research director, is the co-author of “Factors Affecting Smartphone Dependency of Media Consumers” published in the Journal of Mobile Communications on April 1.
Chan-Olmsted, along with doctoral student Min Xiao, examined the phenomenon of smartphone dependency in the context of media consumption. They studied the role of dependency and usage of media platforms, mobile ownership and perceptions, and smartphone function and various consumer characteristics. Their results suggest that dependency on computers and television, smartphone devices for multi-platform media use, and the smartphone social and mobile-specific functions play a role in smartphone dependency for young adult media consumers.
