Wayne Wanta Honored by Leading Chinese University
Professor of Journalism Wayne Wanta recently received the title of honorary professor from the School of Journalism and Media Communication at Shaanxi Normal University in China. Dr. Wanta was recognized for his exemplary scholarship, engaged teaching and friendship to the Shaanxi Normal University community.
Wanta has traveled to 47 countries including eight trips to China to lecture and teach. There are more than 900 journalism programs in China and Shaanxi Normal University is ranked in the top 20.
This summer, Wanta also lectured in Kazakhstan, Georgia and Bangladesh. A scheduled lecture in Nepal was cancelled due to the devastating earthquake that struck in the country in May.
Wanta is internationally known for his research in political communication and media effects. Much of his research examines the agenda-setting function of the news media – how news coverage influences the public’s perceptions of issues and newsmakers. He has also conducted research in sports journalism, visual communication, Internet use and effects, and negative political advertising.
