UF College of Journalism and Communications announces new leadership team
University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Dean Diane McFarlin today announced the appointment of the College’s new leadership team.
Spiro Kiousis, chair and professor of the department of public relations, has been named executive associate dean after serving more than six years as chair of the department.
“Spiro brings to the role a history of academic achievement, a knack for collaboration and team-building, and a track record for nurturing successful initiatives,” McFarlin said. “His advancement of our distance learning program is just one example of his many contributions. I am excited he’ll be my right hand in managing the opportunities of our College.”
Debbie Treise, associate dean of graduate studies and professor of advertising, is being promoted to senior associate dean and will assume responsibilities for research in addition to her current leadership of graduate studies.
“Debbie’s leadership of our graduate program has brought great distinction to the College, and she is certain to elevate our research mission to a similar extent,” McFarlin said. “Research is a natural companion to graduate studies.”
In addition, Mike Weigold, associate dean for undergraduate studies and enrollment management, will assume a larger role in working with the faculty on expanding the College’s academic advisement opportunities and developing entrepreneurial opportunities.
